Furnace failed mid-winter? Replacing it when you need heat now

By the RW Heating, Air, Plumbing & Electrical Team · Reviewed by our NATE-certified technicians · Serving DeSoto County since 1999

A furnace almost always quits on the coldest night, not a mild one. If yours has died and a repair will not bring it back, here is how a winter replacement works and how to stay warm and safe while we get your heat back on.

Repair or replace in a cold snap

We start by checking whether a repair repair will safely get you through the winter. Sometimes it will. But if the furnace is 15 to 20 years old, needs a major part, or shows a cracked heat exchanger, replacement is the safer call. A cracked heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide risk, not something to patch.

Getting heat back fast

Call before 10 AM, and we can often be out the same day. While you wait, safe portable heaters can take the edge off, but keep them clear of anything that burns, and never use the stove or oven for heat. Comfort Club members get priority on days when everyone is calling at once. See our heating services.

Choosing a replacement under pressure

Even in an emergency, the install should be sized and matched to your home rather than rushed. We will lay out your options, including a high-efficiency furnace or a heat pump, and offer financing since a sudden replacement is rarely in the budget. Federal efficiency tax credits ended December 31, 2025, so pricing reflects real costs.

Common questions

Can you replace a furnace the same day?

Often yes if you call early. If a specific unit or additional work is needed, we provide a clear timeline and keep you warm in the meantime.

Is it safe to use space heaters until then?

Yes if used correctly: plug directly into wall outlets, keep clearance, and never leave them unattended or use ovens/stoves for heat.

Should I repair or replace?

If the furnace is old, needs major parts, or has a cracked heat exchanger, replacement is the safer option.

The bottom line

If your heat is out, do not tough it out in the cold. Call 662-429-2590 or request emergency service here.
